OLTP (Online Transaction Processing) Systems are typically performance critical. You have customers on the telephone, trucks being dispatched or manufacturing plants in operation. On top of this, you need to provide more and more realtime reporting and analytical abilities.

The Global Data Server can link directly to your production database and provide query aggregation and caching for users.

• Global Data Server uses one or two database connections and channels all requests through that. No sudden load of 100's of reporting users.

• Configurable Query Caching within GDS means that results can be returned from cache eliminating excessive repeat load.

• Data Presentation features such as Excel interface, Web Server and ReportTV combine to offer users a number of ways to look at data - all without any changes on the OLTP server.

• Data presented via GDS can be conceptually abstracted, and tables and fields hidden from users for security. Changing your backend application does not mean hundreds of reports need to be changed as well.

• Production OLTP databases are optimised for transaction processing. Global Data Server is optimised for reporting using these systems as inputs, but without the effort and expense of formal Data-warehousing.
